2005 - Year of the Mac...finally?

Surprise contender in battle of the brands

Apple bumps Google off the top spot as the world's most striking brand. Mac fans around the world shout 'huzzah!', but haven't we been here before? How many othet times have we heard that Apple is going to take its rightful place in the desktop market?

Don't get me wrong, I can see why Apple is sitting pretty, what with the success of iPod and iTunes, but I just don't think the mighty Wintel empire is in any danger any time soon. Linux fans haven't caused Bill Gates any sleepless nights, I would guess, and I'm not sure Linux fans are much less rabid than Mac fans.

Still, I'd love to be proved wrong. At home I moved from OS 9 to Windows XP and found 9 clunky whenever I went back to it. But then I moved to OS X and found XP slow. So even if Apple doesn't conquer the world - again - this year, I'll be sticking with my Mac.
